The First Graders have been working very hard for several weeks on their texture drawings. Our first project was a drawing of a cat, where we could work on fuzzy textures, like fur. It was a great challenge to try to draw the fur the way it would grow on a cat, but imagining the way your hand moves when petting a cat seemed to help reinforce the idea.
The second project is a drawing of leaves and tree bark for rough textures. Squiggly dark lines on top of soft, lighter colors can create the illusion of cracks and ridges on a surface. Since there are a few tree stumps in the art room to look at, we used those as guides to study the texture. The drawings are still underway, but should be finished up within the next couple of days.
